Wowsaaaa! Talk about impact! The scale of this living room is large so the area rug is large to match it. Keep this in mind when purchasing your rug. It can only help you if the scale and proportion are working in concert. A small space with an over-sized area rug can dwarf your furniture and make your space feel sparse. On the other hand a small rug in a large space will make it seem like you don’t have a good sense of your space. Although there is no right or wrong rule when it comes to the placement of your furniture on the rug (rules like “only the front legs must be on the rug, back legs off” or “there should be 18” of bare floor around the area rug”) you should always measure your space before purchasing a rug to insure the perfect, and desired, fit.
