With the holidays quickly approaching, we feel like all we’ve been thinking about is holiday prep. From scouting out the best bargains, buying and hiding gifts, stocking up the freezer for holiday meals to planning home projects …we’re officially on the slide into holiday mode around here.
As we’re making our lists, and checking them twice (literally), we thought we’d share a few tips that will help welcome your friends and family to your home with festive décor that anyone can create.
I visited a flea market recently and scored a pair of old white leather ice skates, and thought “what a nice alternative to a wreath on my door!” I added artificial greens, a bit of fresh holly and some red and silver ornaments to give the scene an extra festive feel. I spritz it with pine scent or oil so my guests will have no doubt that the holidays are upon us and the scent will remind them of the time they spent in my home.
Every year when I lug my holiday decorations from the garage, I feel like I'm unearthing buried treasures. I love revisiting my favorite decorations and my beloved focal point is my mantel.
Mantels are a natural focal point and during the holidays they take center stage. If you’re completely at a loss as to how to decorate your mantel, we recommend you follow this simple formula:
Create a visual triangle by using a large object in the center such as a mirror. To anchor the mantel, consider using two or three smaller objects on the left, such as candlesticks and complement it with on large object on the right, such as a faux stack of presents.
When decorating mantels for the holiday, it's important to remember they should reflect the style of your room. If you have a minimal space, keep the mantel simple. Some garland and a few ornaments or candlesticks can do the trick.
We hope these simple tips and hints will have you decking the halls this holiday season!
