In week 1 we discussed how sheer and light weight window treatment fabrics can be an issue in a room with a television since the streaming sunlight can cause screen glare making it almost impossible to see the picture. This kind of fabric can also be an issue in a bedroom that has too many windows unless you are an early riser who likes getting up with the sun. If this is not you, you may find yourself not being able to get a restful sleep.

The best way to combat sunlight is to look for treatments with the proper lining and interlining. While shopping for window treatments take time to see what kind of interlining is behind the pretty face fabric. Behind the face fabric you want to see a cotton interlining and then an insulated lining. Not only will this will keep the fabric from fading, it will also help to insulate the room.
Also consider that strong sunlight will fade most fabrics, so try not to select bright vibrant colors unless you intend to change them out every season. Faux silk tends to be the very best in this situation since it wears well and doesn’t fall apart as quickly as real silk or taffeta. Of course, and this is an important factor, it also hangs quite nicely on the rod. Durability plus style equals the perfect window treatment.
